Welcare’s 125th Anniversary

This year Welcare will celebrate its 125th Anniversary with a special Service of Thanksgiving in Southwark Cathedral.

Welcare was founded by the Bishop of Rochester, Randall Davidson and his wife Edith in 1894 in response to the desperate need of those we would now call single, homeless young girls and women.  Throughout the decades our role has progressed and developed to ensure that we reflect the needs of the communities we serve.

We will host a Service of Thanksgiving in Southwark Cathedral at 11am on Saturday 15th June, where we will celebrate our work with families over the years, and look forward to a bright and positive future. Trustees, staff, and young people will contribute to the service through specially chosen readings and hymns.

From May, we will be running our #Capeability campaign, encouraging children to Thrive, to Care & to Inspire.  We will show how we help children to thrive including our work to build emotional well-being; care, through our groups’ focus on mutual respect and positive relationships; and inspire peers and their families to have healthy relationships.  These will be the key themes for the service, and for our work through 2019 and beyond.

This is an opportunity for us to tell the inspiring stories of the children and families whose lives have been transformed by our support, and the support of our volunteers, supporters and staff who make this work possible.

Join us

The 125th anniversary will be a service of celebration, but also a chance to thank those who have supported our work with families over the years for their continued generosity, vision, and prayer.

All are welcome, and we hope you will join us for refreshments after the service.

No need to RSVP, but please do share with colleagues and friends – we’d like to fill the cathedral!
