For more than 50 years, the Friends of Welcare in Greenwich have been a remarkable source of friendship and support.
It is difficult to convey completely just how grateful everyone at Welcare is for the steadfast commitment of our Greenwich Friends. They are a group who know how to work hard, have fun and, importantly, bring their wider families, friends and communities with them.
Their support has raised vital funds for children and families, but their contribution goes far beyond fundraising it has maintained an important connection between Welcare’s work and local parish churches, strengthening the community spirit that sits at the heart of what we do.
We try not to take this extraordinary commitment for granted. That is why we would like to offer our very special thanks to Peter Griffiths, who has supported Welcare for more than 40 years and has recently stepped down as Chair of our Greenwich Friends. Throughout the decades, Peter and his late wife Jean have been an exceptionally conscientious, hardworking and loyal friend of Welcare. While he may have stepped down from his role as Chair, we are delighted that he will remain involved and continue to support our work. We simply could not have asked for a more dedicated champion of Welcare and the children and families we support in Greenwich.
A family tradition of giving continues with the Floyd family, who are carrying forward this wonderful tradition of generational support.
Sue, her son James and granddaughter Sophie recently took part in the London 10K, raising funds for Welcare together. It was a wonderful example of three generations coming together to support children and families in their local community. Sue also chose to mark her 80th birthday in a particularly generous way by inviting friends and family to make donations to Welcare. This thoughtful gesture raised around £700 for our work.
However the family’s fundraising doesn’t stop there.
James is taking on an even bigger challenge by competing in the gruelling Marathon des Sables 120 Morocco putting himself through an extraordinary test of endurance in support of Welcare.
More Than Fundraising
These stories capture what makes our Greenwich Friends so special: Fun events that brings people together, a commitment that spans generations, and a genuine belief in making a difference to children and families in their local community.
The Friends of Welcare in Greenwich help us reach families who need us. Just as importantly, their involvement has helped keep Welcare closely connected to local churches, families and communities.
That connection is something we value enormously.
We are humbled and amazed on a regular basis by the support we receive from our friends, supporters and local communities.
Every donation, fundraising challenge, parish connection and act of kindness represents a lot of hard work but it helps us continue our vital work with children and families.
