Fun in the Park for Families at Welcare’s Summer Picnics 2026

Families from across Redhill enjoyed two afternoons of outdoor fun and friendship as Welcare’s annual summer picnics took place at Memorial Park on 19 and 26 August.

The popular events welcomed 88 adults and 87 children, creating a total of 233 attendances across the two afternoons. Many families chose to come along to both sessions, making the most of the chance to spend time together during the school holidays.

The picnics provided a relaxed setting where children could play freely, parents and carers could catch up with one another, and new friendships could be formed. Despite a more unpredictable summer than usual, the picnics were full of energy, laughter and community spirit, with families embracing the opportunity to spend time together outdoors.

A highlight of the afternoons was the wide range of activities on offer. Children delighted in running through the park, joining in with songs and dances, and chasing the giant bubbles created by Welcare’s Playworker, Hina, whose bubble-making skills once again proved a huge hit with children of all ages. The events were filled with energy, laughter and opportunities for families to make happy memories together.

Welcare staff and volunteers worked throughout both afternoons to ensure a warm welcome for everyone attending. The organisation was also pleased to be joined by Surrey Fire and Rescue Service, whose presence helped add an extra element of excitement and community engagement.

Beyond the games and activities, the picnics offered something equally important: a chance for families to connect with others in their local area. Events like these help strengthen community ties, reduce isolation and provide opportunities for families to enjoy quality time together in a supportive environment.

Chris Mann, Redhill Centre Administrator, said:

“Our summer picnics are always a wonderful opportunity to bring families together. It was fantastic to see so many familiar faces returning, as well as welcoming new families to join in the fun. From the singing and dancing to the bubbles and conversations, the park was full of laughter and positivity. We are very grateful to our volunteers, staff and Surrey Fire and Rescue Service for helping to make both afternoons so enjoyable.”

Welcare would like to thank everyone who attended and contributed to the success of the events. The annual summer picnics continue to be a much-loved part of the school holidays, offering families a welcoming space to have fun, build connections and celebrate the strength of their local community.
