As a women-led charity with a history of supporting vulnerable women and their families, International Women’s Day is an important day for us to mark and celebrate. This years theme is ‘Acceleration in Action’ and is about working together to create gender equality in ‘a world that’s diverse, equitable, and inclusive…where difference is valued and celebrated’.
This week we have taken the opportunity to discuss gender equality with the families we work with and have asked several of the women ‘as a woman what would a fair and equal world look like to you?’ We had some wonderful responses, here are a few of them:
- Fair pay for the same work.
- More women in leadership positions.
- Stop taking it for granted that a women would step back from her career after having children.
- Women having equal rights all over the world, for example, the right to vote or right to an education.
- Women should feel free and safe to go out at night.
As a staff team we have also been discussing women who inspire us, and their was one particular woman who stood out:
