Walk 4 Welcare

Whatever time of the year a Walk 4 Welcare is a great way to keep fit, spend time with friends and family, and improve your wellbeing by being out in nature, all whilst raising money to support vulnerable families in your local community.

Whether you choose to walk around your local park, along a river, or between landmarks, walks are very simple to organise and can be very rewarding and fun for all ages.

You can raise money for Welcare by arranging a collection, setting up a JustGiving page, or asking people to donate via our donation form (please make sure they add a note in the comments about which walk they are donating to).

Scroll down for our 7 Step Guide to Organising a Wonderful Walk 4 Welcare.

7 Step Guide to Organising a Wonderful Walk 4 Welcare:

1. Pick a date and route. Walks can be arranged at any time of the year, but it may be worth considering the weather when picking a date – the walk may not be so enjoyable if it is pouring with rain or very icy.

Think about how people will get to your walk. The starting point needs to be somewhere easily accessible with good public transport or parking. Will it be a circular walk that brings you back to the same spot or with convenient public transport to get you back to your car or home?

One of the great things about organising a Walk 4 Welcare is that it doesn’t cost the organiser anything and can be done in your local area, such as your local park or between two local churches. However, if you would like some inspiration, why not consider:

People of all ages and abilities can take part in a Walk 4 Welcare, but it is worth considering the different needs of those completing the walk when deciding on the route and length.

2. Decide who to invite. As well as walking with friends and family, why not consider arranging a walk with people from your church, school or local group or club – the bigger the group, the more you can raise for Welcare. We can provide you with an invitation that you can email or print out. It encourages your fellow walkers to RSVP, allows them to prepare themselves for the walk, and also gives them plenty of time to ask their friends and family for donations for Welcare.

3. Refreshments. Some people like to reward themselves by finishing at a pub or coffee shop while others prefer to schedule a stop mid-way to revive flagging feet. Whatever your preference don’t forget to take some water and snacks for the actual walk.

4. Reminder. We have found a call or message the day before, just to remind your friends that you are looking forward to the adventure, is a great way to ensure everyone turns up.

5. Enjoy the event. Enjoy the opportunity to catch up with friends and family, be out in nature and know that you are helping others at the same time.

6. Celebrate your success. We really appreciate your hard work and enthusiasm for holding these events to raise money for Welcare so remember to tag us on any social media. Alternatively, we can share photos and comments on our social media pages. Please make sure you have everyone’s permission and email us at fundraising@welcare.org letting us know if there are any organisations (like your Church or workplace) that you would like us to tag.

7. Pay in the donations. You can either give us your ‘donation pot’ and we will count it and pay it in or we can give you our bank details and you can transfer it. We will need any completed gift aid forms so that they can be processed correctly but we can send you a stamped addressed envelope for these. If you are local to one of our centres why not drop the money in yourself. You will be assured of a warm welcome.

We hope this helps you plan your Walk 4 Welcare and remember we are here to help, just a phone call or email away. We can provide motivation, support and encouragement. Please call us on 01737 780 884 (East Surrey), 020 7820 7910 (south London) or email fundraising@welcare.org. We look forward to hearing from you.

Our #CapeAbility in Schools Programme is a group work programme in schools to help children improve their emotional well being and confidence and self-esteem. Please help Welcare to deliver this work by pledging to support us.
In place of giving gifts this year, please donate to our Families in Crisis campaign. All donations will directly go towards tackling the increasing cost of living for the families we work with.
