What is the Domestic Abuse Recovery Toolkit?

The Domestic Abuse Recovery Toolkit is a trauma-informed and accredited programme developed by Rock Pool Life. Delivered in group settings by Welcare’s trauma-informed Family Support Workers, it is designed to support adults, children and young people who have experienced domestic abuse.

About the Programme

The Recovery Toolkit is a structured, evidence-based intervention split into two strands:

  • Adult Recovery Toolkit – 12 weekly sessions
  • Children and Young People’s Recovery Toolkit – 8 weekly sessions

Each strand is tailored to meet the emotional and psychological needs of survivors, helping them understand the impact of abuse and develop strategies for recovery.

Aims of the Programme

Through the Recovery Toolkit, Welcare aims to:

  • Help families rebuild trust and communication
  • Reduce anxiety and improve emotional wellbeing
  • Strengthen parent-child relationships
  • Foster hope and confidence for a future free from abuse

Who Is It For?

This programme is suitable for:

  • Non-abusive parents and carers who have experienced domestic abuse
  • Children and young people affected by domestic abuse

The group is for children aged 8 to 13.

To participate, the child must not be having contact with the perpetrator.Β

Individual 1:1 Family Work

We can also offer this programme in a 1:1 format with individual families. For 1:1 support, we may work with children under 8 if it is developmentally appropriate. This would be discussed on a case-by-case basis with our team.

What Participants Can Expect

  • A safe, non-judgmental space to share and reflect
  • Tools to understand trauma and build resilience
  • Support to develop healthy coping strategies
  • Improved confidence, self-worth and emotional regulation
