Improving Health

Welcare in East Surrey is delighted to have received £847 in funding from Councillor Natalie Bramhall for a partnership with Growing Health Together Redhill to improve health outcomes for those of South Asian and Black ethnicity.

Typically, this community do not access mainstream GP services as readily and their health outcomes are poorer.  In a drive to improve outcomes for them, free health checks are being provided in locations locally where people from these groups already attend, and where they already trust the host organisation.   This health screening has a specific emphasis on detection of, information on, and prevention of diabetes. Welcare has been chosen as a trusted provider and already has two weekly drop-in groups that have a high proportion of South Asian mums attending.  Welcare is promoting the health checks within the groups, encouraging mums to book appointments, providing a room alongside the group for the check to take place and a member of staff will look after the child whilst the check is undertaken.
