Walk for Welcare, Charlton Park

Come and join our Greenwich Friends for their annual Walk for Welcare.

Once again, Greenwich Welcare invites you to come and join some members of the fundraising committee as we undertake a 10K walk within the confines of Charlton Park.

Participants are invited to meet from 11am outside the Cafe which is situated inside the Park close to the entrance in Charlton Park Road opposite the Charlton Lane turning. Buses 53, 54, 422 and 486 stop at Charlton Park Road/Charlton Lane (coming from Woolwich or Welling or Blackheath Standard or North Greenwich). The 380 bus from Woolwich also stops at this point but coming from Blackheath you would need to alight in Charlton Village and walk forward about 200 yards to the Park Entrance. Parking is available in a free Car Park (next to the Assembly Rooms) in Charlton Village (opposite the Fairfield Grove turning).

Drinks and other refreshments are available from the Cafe. Toilets are  available nearby or in Charlton House.

Walkers are invited to obtain sponsorship just for taking part rather than so much a kilometre so that you can do the whole walk or just part of it (it’s up to you).

The first part of the route is on a made up path and the second part of the circuit will be on grass; the whole route is on the flat. Please give your name and a telephone number where you can be contacted to your local committee member in case we thought the weather was going to be too bad and we decide to cancel.

The whole walk involves six circuits (just over 1.5k each circuit) of the park and will begin at the Cafe and follows the path along the back of the Recreation Area, past the Children’s Play area and on past the Football Changing Rooms and the back of Charlton Park Academy until you reach the gate into Cemetery Lane. At this point, turn right and begin the walk on the grass, following the tree line, turning at the corner to follow along beside Charlton Park Lane and Canberra Road. Continue on the grass until you have to turn right again, and still following the trees, come along the edge of the Charlton House lawn and cross in front of the House, turn right onto the path and follow it until you return to the cafe where you started.
