Transition Fund
Welcare has won a government grant to support its future sustainability. Given to organisations that would be affected by reductions in local authority funding the grant, known as the Transition Fund, is intended to support those organisations delivering front line services to “adapt to a different funding environment during a period when they are at risk from reductions in taxpayer funded income.” The quality of Welcare’s services has been recognised by receiving this funding. Welcare will be using the money to reshape the services it does offer or develop new ones in response to local need. At the same time it will look at how it can best be seen by a whole range of new funders, including local communities and Churches, as an important supporter of families and children. It is looking to build more partnerships with other like minded organisations.
Further information can be obtained from Mercy Jeyasingham, Transition Manager at mercy.jeyasingham@welcare.org.uk
FGM Changes its Name!
When the service began in 1997, families were asked which name they preferred - Family Group Meetings or Family Group Conferences. Families thought that the word 'conference' sounded more formal, so we stuck to Family Group Meetings, or as it was more commonly known, the FGM service. Fast forward to 2011 and Wandsworth wants to officially call the service the Family Group Conferencing (FGC) Service, falling in line with the more common term used across the UK. Whatever the name, the service has stayed the same and will remain committed to assisting families in helping make their own plan to address their issues.
