Welcare in Wandsworth

Welcare in Wandsworth is one of eight centres run by Welcare – helping families in Wandsworth give their children a happier, more confident childhood.

Family support provides one-to-one help for both parent and children.  We also assist with, for example, behaviour management, emotional problems parenting skills and domestic abuse issues.

Our children’s groups (e.g. Circle of Friends and Social Skills) take place either in schools or at our centre.

We also do direct work with children in schools giving them a safe place to explore their feelings.

Parenting programmes follow recognised models such as Strengthening Families and Webster Stratton to help families find solutions to the challenges they face.

We also run drop-in groups for parents during term-time, where people can meet each other to share experiences and gain self-confidence.

Family Group Conferences help families work together to develop their own family plan, when social services have concerns about a child. There could, for example, be mental health, substance misuse, or domestic abuse issues, or behavioural and education issues.

The conferences allow the family to come together and make decisions about what they can do to address the concerns that social services have.

We also offer family support to children under five and their parents through the Tooting Locality Early Years Team.

A free crèche is available for children under five whose parents are using our services.

The fact that I could share my problems at the sessions changed my outlook.
